Meet Elaine

Church consultant, award-winning author, and inspirational speaker

Elaine Helms, an award-winning author and inspirational speaker, is often called the prayer lady, by people, when speaking to local, national, and international groups.


Elaine speaks and writes out of the overflow of 30 years of experience in church, national and interdenominational prayer leadership. She has wisdom to share out of the reservoir of what God has taught and is teaching her about Himself through prayer.

Elaine is married to retired Army Colonel Joel A. Helms; they have three married children and ten grandchildren— however, their son and three of ten grandchildren are with Jesus in heaven.


Elaine has served in many prayer leadership capacities including:

  • Church Prayer Ministry Coordinator, Johnson Ferry Church, 1988-2000

  • Associational Prayer Coordinator, Noonday Baptist Association, 1990-2000

  • Prayer Chair, Quest Atlanta ’96, (Christians preparing from 1991-96 for outreach during the 1996 World Olympics).

  • Published Atlanta Christian Chronicles newspaper 1993-1997

  • Prayer Coordinator, Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), NAMB* 2000-2010

  • Published the NAMB Quarterly Prayer Gram and Prayer Connection

  • Speaking at prayer banquets, retreats, seminars, and leading conferences in all fifty United States, Canada, Australia, Korea, Kenya, France, and Romania.

  • Facilitator, SBC PrayerLink 2005-2011

  • Prayer Coordinator, My Hope America with Billy Graham, 2012-2013

  • Women’s Affinity Group Chair, Mission America Coalition, 2005-2018

Currently, Elaine is: 

  • Co-Chair SBC PrayerLink Local Church Prayer Coordinators Network

  • Board Member, (Multi) Denominational Prayer Leaders Network

  • SBC Representative, National Prayer Committee.

  • Member, Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) 

  • Member, Christian Authors Network CAN)
